Overview:

This comprehensive five-day instructor-led course covers important networking fundamentals using the Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) seven layer model concepts.

The course also focuses on using Catalyst switches and routers connected in local-area networks (LANs) and wide-area networks (WANs) typically found at small to medium network sites. Upon completion of this training course, students will be able to select, connect, configure, and troubleshoot the various Cisco networking devices.

This course provides students with a practical understanding of the operation of modern TCP/IP networks built with Cisco hardware. This course will also provide students with the skills and knowledge required to successfully install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium size enterprise branch network.

Exam:   After completing this course participants can sit the comprehensive Cisco CCNA exam (640-802)
Skills Gained:    Upon course completion, students will be able to describe computer hardware basics, binary and hexadecimal number systems, basic networking terminology and internetworking concepts. Students will also be able to identify the major components of a network system, including clients and servers; network interface cards (NICs), internetworking devices, media, and topologies. They will be able to describe the functions, operations, and primary components of local-area networks (LANs), wide-area networks (WANs), metropolitan-area networks (MANs), storage-area networks (SANs), content networks (CNs), and virtual private networks (VPNs).

Additionally, participants attending this course will be able to use available configuration tools to establish connectivity to the appropriate network device in order to complete the initial device configuration as well as explain the purposes of networking addresses, routing protocols, and routed protocols. Students will be confident in using the appropriate show commands and debug commands to display network operational parameters so that anomalies are detected. They will be able to explain how bridging and switching operates, and explain the purpose and operations of the Spanning-Tree Protocol.

In addition, students will be able to build a functional configuration and functional router configuration to support the specified network operational requirements, given a network design. Lastly, they will also be able to describe the features and operation of static routing.

Audience:   This course is intended for students who wish to gain the CCNA certification. It is designed for those who have a firm background in data networking or have hands on experience with Cisco routers and switches, and wish to increase their knowledge of installing or maintaining networks.
Prerequisites:  Before attending this course, students must have basic knowledge of PC hardware configurations, an understanding of networking business drivers, and basic computer literacy. Further, students considering this course should have a sound understanding of the principals of business networking. Students should also be able to demonstrate understanding of the following specific areas: the OSI model and a basic understanding of the 7 layers and IP Addressing – Classfull/Classless, Addressing Sub-netting, Basic routing protocol awareness, (RIP) Basic Router IOS knowledge (user, privilege and configure modes); setup the hostname and configure the login password. Assign IP address to interfaces and create VLAN's on a switch.
