	The CompTIA A+ certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians. The international, vendor-neutral certification proves competence in areas such as installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting. CompTIA A+ certified technicians also have excellent customer service and communication skills to work with clients. CompTIA A+ is part of the certification track for corporations such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Overview:	This five-day practical hands-on course will teach support newcomers the fundamental principles of supporting desktop and portable computers and operating systems.
Audience:	This course is intended for students wishing to qualify with CompTIA A+ Certification for PC Support professionals. It is also suitable for students wanting to improve their skills in PC support and administration.
Skills Gained:	After completing this course students will gain the skills to undertake the A+ Essentials and A+ IT Support Technician exams, gaining the CompTIA Support Technician credential.
Prerequisites:	Students must be familiar with basic PC use such as navigating windows and surfing the web
Key Topics:	Module 1: Identify types and characteristics of PC components, including motherboard, CPU, memory, and storage, input, and output devices. Module 2: Install and configure peripheral devices. Module 3: Identify types and characteristics of portable computers. Module 4: Install and configure Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP. Module 5: Perform basic PC maintenance and troubleshooting. Module 6: Understand fundamental principles of securing IT systems and working safely. Module 7: Communicate effectively with customers. Module 8: Install and configure print and imaging devices. Module 9: Understand fundamental principles of implementing LANs and internet access.
Certification:	The latest version of CompTIA A+ is CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition. Two exams are necessary to be certified: CompTIA A+ Essentials, exam code 220-701; and CompTIA A+ Practical Application, exam code 220-702. CompTIA A+ Essentials measures the necessary competencies of an entry-level IT professional with at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. It tests for the fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, as well as the communication skills and professionalism now required of all entry-level IT professionals. CompTIA A+ Practical Application is an extension of the knowledge and skills identified in CompTIA A+ Essentials, with more of a "hands-on" orientation focused on scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems.
